OUR STORY.
Wobbly Chook Brewing Co. was founded by the Henwood family, Chris, Steven, Shane, Melissa, Justin & Kellie.
The family originally built & opened Yamba’s first & only backpackers’ hostel in 2008, including onsite bar & cafe ‘The Block’.
For 13 years, great friendships were formed amongst travellers from all across the globe, & the backpackers became a home away from home for 1000's, quickly becoming 1 of the best hostels in Australia.
The Block also became a favourite amongst the locals.
Skip forward to 2020, the pandemic brought both the backpacking & hospitality industries to a grinding halt. It was during this time, the family had to make a choice, either ‘Evolve or Dissolve’.
The family had always dreamed of opening Yamba’s first craft brewery, & so the process began. The whole building underwent renovations, including updating the 20 dormitory style rooms into family friendly hotel style rooms.
With the brewery equipment purchased & installed, the services of our brewer mate Brian Pinard were enlisted to help fulfil the dream. In late February, 2021, dreams came true, the first beer was brewed.
In June 2021, Wobbly Chook Brewing Co. officially opened its doors, pouring 4 of our very own beers.
WHY THE NAME?
The name came about after our father Chook (Steven) was spotted walking back from a session with his mates that left him a little Wobbly!!
Here at The Wobbly Chook, we have combined the love of beer and the love of the local area to provide a central hub for clucken’ great beer, food, and accommodation, right in the heart of beautiful Yamba.
